Offer life-changing medical services to 18,000 people in Latin America with Focusing Philanthropy and Timmy Global Health

As always, Focusing Philanthropy covers all overhead costs. 100% of every donation will go to the 2018 Timmy Growth Fund Campaign.

THE NEED

In Latin America and the Caribbean, 30% of people do not have access to healthcare due to economic reasons, another 21% don’t have access for geographical reasons. People cannot obtain the simple, affordable remedies – antibiotics, medication for chronic illness, preventative care and health education – that are key to a healthy, productive life.  

THE GOAL

Focusing Philanthropy and Timmy Global Health are teaming up to raise a combined $500,000 to provide life-changing medical services for 18,000 patients in Latin America.

By pairing short-term mobile medical clinics with long-term health programming, Timmy delivers consistent, high-quality primary care to people who cannot access the local health system. Timmy sends week-long, recurring volunteer medical service teams to its partner communities in Ecuador, Guatemala, and the Dominican Republic. Between visits, in-country Timmy staff work with local providers and groups to ensure continuity of care, follow-up for chronic conditions, and referrals for patients needing specialists, collaborating with grassroots organizations and ministries of health on treatment as well as prevention.

The Timmy Growth Fund will cover the costs of all 35-40 Timmy medical trips to eight sites in 2019, ensuring:

  • Primary care for patients in need
  • Medicines to treat illness, infections and chronic conditions
  • Deployment of volunteer medical teams to each site every three months
  • Follow-up care by local doctors between mobile clinics
  • Referrals for patients needing specialty care–including transportation, indigenous language translation, and treatment cost support
  • Strengthened training, sustainability, impact measurement efforts

THE GIVING MATCH

Through December 31, Focusing Philanthropy will provide up to $200,000 in matching support toward the overall Timmy Growth Fund goal of $500,000.

To qualify for the match, donations must be directed to Focusing Philanthropy and a minimum of $1,000. Donations are fully tax deductible and 100% of funds contributed will go to the 2018 campaign. All Focusing Philanthropy costs are covered by its founders.
