There are currently ~56,000 Afghan evacuees being housed at military bases across the country. Half of them are children. They must be integrated into communities as quickly as possible, but the U.S. government and resettlement agencies do not have the necessary infrastructure to process the overwhelming number of urgent cases.<\/p>\n
The Afghan refugee crisis has unfolded against an already distressing backdrop. In recent years, the world has witnessed the highest level of forced displacement on record, with an unprecedented 26 million refugees languishing worldwide.\u00a0The majority\u2014about 85%\u2014reside in developing countries. Most faced compounding hardship as the COVID-19 pandemic spread unabated in refugee communities lacking robust sanitation and healthcare infrastructure, leading to shuttered economies that refugees depend on for their livelihoods and halting live-saving relocation and resettlement programs. \nTHE GOAL<\/h3>\n
Focusing Philanthropy and RefugePoint have partnered to raise $1,875,000 to respond to the needs of nearly 17,000 refugees recovering from the Afghan and other humanitarian crises. This includes a $375,000 expansion to ensure RefugePoint can immediately deploy a team of experts in support of the U.S. Department of State’s Sponsor Circle Program for Afghans. The newly launched initiative is augmenting domestic resettlement capacity and revolutionizing the way America receives and integrates refugees, both now and as a permanent part of U.S. government response moving forward.<\/p>\n
Since 2005, RefugePoint has helped more than 87,000 refugees across 41 countries access resettlements and complementary pathways, in addition to providing lifesaving interventions\u2014such as shelter, health care, and business training\u2014to over 12,000 urban refugees in Nairobi, Kenya annually.<\/p>\n
The Refugee Resettlements, Reunification, and Self-Reliance campaign will support ~16,000 refugees with access to resettlement, other complementary pathways (family reunification, labor migration, education visas), or child protection casework to relocate to safety in the U.S., Canada, Australia, or the E.U; and ~1,000 of the most vulnerable urban refugees in Nairobi with access to a path toward self-reliance.<\/p>\n

THE GIVING MATCH<\/h3>\n
Focusing Philanthropy will add $1 for every $1 raised by RefugePoint donors, for up to $937,500 in matching support toward the overall 2021 campaign goal of $1,875,000.<\/p>\n
To qualify for the match, donations must be directed to Focusing Philanthropy and a minimum of $1,000. Donations are fully tax deductible and 100% of funds contributed will go to the Refugee Resettlements, Reunification, and Self-Reliance campaign.<\/p>\n
