Veronica's Story

Veronica Kikula, a Tanzanian farmer, used to average 840 pounds of maize crop a year. In 2013, the first year she enrolled with One Acre Fund, Veronica harvested 5,000 pounds on the same one acre. The greater yield has enabled her to send her son, Atson, to school; build a small permanent structure for the store she previously ran from a shack made of sticks; double the fraction of her land under cultivation (she now harvests 8,000 pounds a year!); and, above all, ensure that her family will no longer go hungry or be malnourished. Over 357,000 subsistence farm family members in four countries are achieving similar life changing results through their own hard work and the help made possible by the partnership between Focusing Philanthropy and One Acre Fund.
